A wonderful Zen Buddhism temple and considered one of the five great Zen temples of Kyoto. We mapped out temples and shrines in Eastern Kyoto and walked to each of them from the south to the north. A wonderful day.

Big building, There is a garden with a lot of trees. During autumn color it must be amazing, but I visited in December. But there are also some really nice stone garden and a field of moss. Tofukuji is just a short hop from Kyoto station, and has a lovely setting with bridges over a stream, a chequer-board zen garden as well as one of the biggest gates to zen temples.
