Sajusangendo Hall is a large wooden temple filled with 1001 figures of the thousand armed Buddhist goddess Kannon. The intricate gold covered, life sized figures were carved in the 12th and 13th centuries. There are also many other statues of Buddhist guardian deities in the hall with signs providing descriptions. Particularly impressive are the statues of the gods of wind... More

This is a very different place with some impressive view for those who likes Buddhist temples. It is a worship place with a very long and horizontal temple with 1001 different Buddha statues. The view is impressive due to the quantity of statues and it's history.

Isn't religion fascinating! 1001 Buddha statues all about life size standing in rows in this enormous building. What a labour of devotion. Then there is the story of the archery competition in the back corridor.

Get ahead of the school buses if you can then you can take the time to enjoy this temple. Make sure you check out the story about the archery contest where the record set in 1686 has not been broken!

A relatively small temple complex but striking none the less. The many buddhas are a definite sight to behold, though no photos permitted. The path through the temple culminated in gift shop , though the prices are reasonable. You can also opt to purchase a temple book and prayer reeds along the way as well.

Definitivetly this is the most impressive Hall or Temple to visit. The 1001 Buddha displayed and carved are just amazing. You can cross the street and go to the Kyoto Museum. Not to be missed!

This place is remarkable. It's impressive and interesting and I highly recommend it. There are 1,000 buddha statues and they are all slightly different and there is so much history behind this area.

The 1000 Statues at around 1.5m tall each is magnificent and so are the statues of the gods and guardians. Looking at them makes you feel connected to Japan religious history and there so many other artifacts on show. Its a pity that no cameras are allowed and don't even try sneaking a video cam, everyone who visits the temple... More

The 1000 statues of Kannon are impressive but for me the highlight was the expressive wooden statues of the guardian deities. An easy busride from Kyoto bus terminal (100 or 206). The gardens an added extra. No photos allowed inside.

We found this attraction very interesting and the 1001 Kannon golden statues and buddha was incredible. The ornamental gardens and ponds are really beautiful too. Its amazing that it was designed even back then to withstand earthquakes.
