Kiyomizu is more than a temple on the hill. beside its wonderful wood structure, this place has many interesting spots and is a nice walking trail. there are several worship places (mini shrines), pagodas, benches when you get tired of walking around or just to site enjoying the nice weather. if you're not to hurry there's a paved walking trail down... Yes, you have to walk up a hill to get to the temple, but our family had a great time making the trek. Our party included four generations of our family; one toddler, two parents, two grandparents and one great grandparent. We had borrowed a wheelchair from the tourist information office at Kyoto Station for the great grandparent and we... More

We realize we’re a minority here, and we hate to rain on everyone else’s parade, but we found Kiyomizu-dera so crowded as to be almost unbearable. Perhaps our mistake was visiting in mid-May, when the influx of school groups is at its peak. There were so many young school children it was hard just to move. Though denominated a temple,... More

The climb up is far but along the way i saw interesting old houses picturesque small streets, imagining how it was like in the old days. The temple itself sits on top of a hill.Said that it was built without a single nail.Breathtaking hill view with lush trees.unfortunately when i came it was a busy day, difficult to really absorb the experience... World Heritage Site and if in Kyoto, one of the must-see places. Queue up to take a sip of the water that flows from the river and maybe you can gain some wisdom too ;P Go early in the morning or risk being stuck in hordes of tourists and school children. Make sure to reward yourself with a green tea... More

I have been going to Kyomizu every year for quite a few years now. Its holds a very special place in heart as it is just stunning! All seasons are beautiful but the cherry blossoms makes it that little more wonderful. I would advise to go there very early in the morning as it is a very popular site in... More

Interesting temple with a lot of different parts to visit, all of them scenic. A lot is currently being restored and is dismantled, but still interesting with great views. A bit crowded.

If you are in Kyoto this is a must visit place. Kiyomizu Temple, "Pure Water Temple", is built on top of a hill and can be reached from Kyoto Station by bus number 100 or 206 (15 minutes, 220 yen). From the bus stop it is a ten minute uphill walk to the temple along a delightful street lined with... More

There are great views over Kyoto, both from the large deck that you see in so many photos, and also from other parts of the grounds. The temple buildings are large and imposing too, and worth having a good look at. I went about 9 in the morning and, although it was moderately busy with school groups, I didn't find... More

It is phenomenon. Takes for good photos, only wish I had better camera. The landscape is spectacular. Choose the timing of the day you'd like to go.
