The Golden Pavilion is a World Cultural Heritage Site and is something that you don't get to see everyday especially with its gold foil covering. It was perfectly built in a pond garden listed as a National Special Historic Site and Special Place of Scenic Beauty. A map is provided at the entrance which makes the tour easier to navigate.

it is amazing to see a pavilion covered in gold leaves. But it gets crowded when students have school trips there, very crowded.

The gardens and surrounds of the temple were beautifully maintained, with wonderful sand gardens blended with a range of manicured plants in the Japanese style. The temple itself was stunning, presenting some great photo opportunities. These would no doubt be even better at cherry-blossom time. We got there by catching a local bus from the central terminal - a day... More

The distance by bus no.100 from Kyoto Stn is around 40mins but worth the travelling time. Entrance fee is 400yen but the beauty of this pavillion from across the lake is simply breathtaking. Take note to include the reflections on the lake in your photos cos it can be spectacular. Within the compound is also a very old pine tree... More

This temple is set in beautiful surroundings and a must see. Try to go early to get great views and photos before the crowds.

The temple is very beautiful but the garden not so much. However, it's worth a visit ! (If you want to see a beautiful garden with an "ok" temple, go see the Silver Temple)

Take the 205 bus line. They are quite ready for people traveling there so they will tell you which bus line to stand in. After you pay and walk in. Take your time exploring the area. It's unique. It can be done very quickly, almost too quickly. There are many places inside to buy souvenirs as well. Just as a... More

This temple is a must-see in Kyoto, it's a gorgeous and picturesque area. There's also a tea house that's lovely as well, for 5000 yen you can have green tea and a small dessert. When I went it was EXTREMELY busy, but it was a Saturday so there were lots of students there on school trips, and I really enjoyed... More

The golden pavilion is beautiful as you can tell from the pictures, but it is really over run with tourists making the grounds less enjoyable than they might be.
