The Palace in blue and white is huge. The interior displays the opulence and grandeur of this bygone age where there was such a gap between the rich and the poor. The photos showing the Palace burnt compared to what has been restored today is worth noting. The question is also raised as to whether it was restored as originally... More

The exterior of the palace is not to be missed. The inside was crowded with tour groups. We were disappointed to know that it is a recent rebuild, post WWII. To some degree it loses its luster for me. Additionally, the Amber Room is just a replica so again I was a little disappointed. The rest of the palace looks... More

The ballroom of gold is really beautiful and huge and the palace has many stunning rooms but the Amber Room is amazing. It is not the original as it was stolen by the Nazis and is believed to be buried in Berlin. Our guide kept talking about the stolen panels so I was expecting to see a room with a few... More

each room is unique and it really gives you an insight into how the upper, upper Nobility lived. Nicely restored and presented. But in the end, it is an Old Palace.

This rivals the Peterhof, and for me this barely tops it. The interior is more stunning then the exterior. Over the top everything makes this place stand out. Pretty much destroyed in WWII, this palace has overcome the pile of rubble it was. Make sure you go inside and see the incredible amber room and great hall. Just absolutely magnificent.

This palace was almost destroyed during WWII and when you are here you see the love the Russians have for their antiquities. This palace was spectacular and the Amber Room......truly amazing.

Think opulent, beautiful and breath-taking. Think gold, alabaster, marble, parquet, porcelain and more. Layer on religious symbolism in art and artistry. Add cabinetry in its finest tradition. Peek around the corner and you're greeted by the set table in the huge dining room, replete with fireplace fronted by molded plaster screens. Walk through as slowly as you're able/allowed amidst the... More

Another great Russian Palace.... nothing exceeds like excess! And all those window canopies were covered in gold during Elizabeth's day!

Well, I personally enjoyed Peterhof more, but Catherine Palace is an impressive display of wealth and power and it rounds out the fascinating history of the Russian Royals.

It takes some effort to get to the palace and park if you're on your own but it's worth it. To be able to see the Amber Room up close was worth the price of admission. The park offers a lot of surprises and one could easily spend several hours exploring every corner.
