They kind of have a lot of animals, but they smell badly. I don't think they have enough recources to clean their cages and all the smell goes up into the air.

The wombat smells awful. old style zoo. The porcupine sleeps all day in Summer but more active from end of Winter until late Spring. Is really strange nobody heard if porcupine lives in Kazakhstan, however you never know.

Happened to be there after a rainy day and hence the peacocks both regular and albino ones were in the mood for the dance.

Zoos in Poland and in Europe are beautiful and very intresting. Here it is different. Animals are living in small cages. Climate is not comforttable. When I was there I was thinking " How animals can exist here, it is impossible".

People feed animals, I feel so sorry about poor animals. The cages and the buildings are from the Soviet times, nothing special.

Right next to Gorky Park and a sort of continuation of it. The zoo was the usual miserable Soviet gulag for animals in the early days of Kazakhstan's independence but now that it is in contact with zoos worldwide has become rather cheerier with improved conditions for the animals. Another pleasant walk.

My only visit to Almaty Zoo was on a fact-finding tour in July 2008 before moving here with my family.
