went on a hot Sunday during GW, all the temples in the course was closed (can i say some simply look deserted) , i'm expecting more greens with nice temples so it's a disappointing & tiring walkin course for me when i realize i keep seeing residential houses on the way More

I only walked the first part of the course where the temples are, not the further area around the old castle. The temples up here are very old but the area has more of a sparsely populated museum feel rather than the "living temple" experience of other places in Japan. I enjoyed the walk through the forest areas and the... More

I do not understand Japanese map drawing BUT I loved my holiday and found it better to just wander rather than refer to a map. Maps do not necessarily face north, are not necessarily to scale, do not have all the roads and paths marked on them, show some buildings but not others. I loved walking around Takayama and found... The atmosphere among the shrines and cemeteries is really serene with wonderful views below of the city. We wish we'd had more time to walk the entire course. More

For a free walk this was amazing, we even managed to take photos of us ringing the Japanese bells. The shrines were beautiful in the snow, we loved Takayama. More

We did this in winter and effectively circumnavigated the north of the city in 2 hours in the snow. It was a really pretty walk and easy to follow with clear directions everywhere. More

I enjoyed this walk and it on my first of two days in Takayama. It is very well marked (overall Takayama has great tourist signage). I didn't go all the way to the end but turned off on the spur that goes into the park. Great photo ops and interesting look at homes. If I had to compare this to... More

We had plenty of time to explore around Takayama, so we decided to try this hike that covers some less-visited shrines and temples in the hills of Takayama. We had a bit of trouble finding it, but the town is small and easy to figure out on your own...eventually. The temples along the route are fairly run-down, so don't expect... More

This is why they call Takayama a "Little Kyoto". It includes a bit of hiking. Once you are up on Shiroyama hill, you can enjoy a beautiful sight. All the best Takayama temples lined up in front of and bellow you. Unforgettable scene. And not only the temples and Takayama panorama. The nature that surrounds it is breathtaking it self... More
