The museums there are well organised with lots of material in English. Allow time to read the original notes from the young american who visited and discovered this for the western world. They are entertaining as well as giving many insights into the culture there. the twon is full of souvenir shops but if you go back a block from the... DAts back to nearly 7,000 years ago to the beginning of civilization through skeletal remains that were buried here along with pottery, bronze age materials, cloth and many other items. They claim to date back to the very early beginning of human kinds existence on earth. Excellent museum to go along with some great local markets. Tells the whole story... More

Ban Chiang was one of the oldest Bronze Age settlements in the world. Its discovery in 1966 by an amateur archaeologist set the archaeological world alight, as it was previously assumed that South-East Asia had been very primitive at this period of history. The idea that mere villagers could have developed metallurgy a millenium or two before Rome upended many... More

The museum at the prehistoric site of Ban Chiang is an unexpected gem out in the countryside. There's a variety of exhibits, some diorama's, artefacts and it's all well presented. Also interesting when you're not an archeologybuff with an interest in pottery. If you're with kids, take them to one of the many potteries or shops and let them paint... More

We have been to Thailand many times and always take people to Ban Chiang, but sadly no more, as the cost, for what it is, is far too expensive. The markets across the road are great though! More
