Have been fascinated by the history of Masada and for years have read all I could about this special place, including Yigael Yadin's wonderful archeological accounts. Had been on my "Bucket List" for decades....and it was truly a thrill to finally be there, but unfortunately went in June and it was SOOOO hot. If you go, travel at a cooler... More

What an overwhlming experience. We lucky to have a tour guide who did a great job explaining the history. Herod's palace was truly amazing - what an engineering feat from so long ago. There are beautiful views over the Dead Sea and surrounding desert. Keep a look out for the ruins of the Roman encampments.

After reading the history of this place I was expecting more. Maybe my expectations were too high. What I saw was a crowded place with some ruins :) Not to mention that even in April it was veeery hot. It wasn't cheap either. We learned too late that you can buy a ticket valid for 3 or 7 "national parks"... More

My wife and I were on an excellent tour of Israel but I spent alot of time in the months before our trip reading and watching dvds that related to the areas we were visiting. Even as prepared as we were it was overwhelming and I can't imagine how much a visitor might not be prepared for if they just... More

Dear all, Can be given a skip if you have less time in Israel. I went on a sunny afternoon and took the cable car to the top and enjoyed the initial half an hour due to the splendid views it offers of the dead sea. However the castle as such is is much reconstructed and does not have much... More

Masada is worth visiting and walking to the top is the must! Enjoyed the Son & Lumiere show on the western approach, albeit the story presented is not historically accurate, but fun nevertheless.!

Begin by taking the interactive audio guide tour through the museum. Then look at the model in the courtyard. Take the cable car up and explore the site, marveling at the frescoes and mosaics. Once you've understood what happened here by observing the Roman siege camps and wall surrounding the site and the ramp, ask yourself what you would have... More

We took the cable car to the top - very exciting! Then we explored Masada - I was completely blown away by the mountains and mountains that surrounded us. It was indeed a wilderness - a desert wilderness of mountain ranges upon mountain ranges. Then looking toward the east the deep blue Dead Sea glimmered and sparkled below us like... More
