Enjoyed the drive from Bukit Tinggi via the famous Kelok 44, which is itself a marvellous construction of steep winding road leading to the lake. The huge lake and the vast expanse of greenery interspersed with padi fields are very scenic and a real joy to watch.

I was traveling alone as an "old" backpacker when i read somewhere about the Maninjau Lake. I already went to the Toba lake, and it was great already but I wanted to see more about the south of Sumatra, Indonesia. I was not disappointed at all. This is a perfect place for anyone who wants quietness and peacefulness. I so... More

Well, that is the number of corners you have to go through before getting to the lake... and 44 curves again on the way back. Which was the reason why I did not descend down the lake! Instead I went up to Puncak Lawang and had a few stops to enjoy the breath-taking views of Danau Maninjau. It is simply... More

A visit to Lake Maninjau is not complete without visiting “Puncak Lawang” (or Lawang Top). The breath-taking scenic view is beyond any description of words. The view from top of the mountain overlooking the lake and its surrounding area is spectacular. Instantly, it reminds me of an advertisement for cigarettes called “Salem High Country”. It is refreshing & you would... More

I came here about 3 years ago, not long after the earthquake. The view was amazing, and gave you a sense of tranquility, made you forget for a moment the chaotic event after the earthquake while trying to made sense about what had just happened after the mega disaster. Looking at its coastal line, you'll never suspected that just a... More

Lake maninjau is not a typical lake, she has a great panoramic view, nice coloring of the lake, and a lovely atmosphere. Its worth the time spent for climbing onto bukit lawang. Seeing a lake, giant lake maybe, from the top of the hill was really a nice experience. People there are delightful, very welcome. Me and my family had... More

If you are looking to get in contact with nature and stay a night in a traditional hut chilling out while reading a book and enjoying a wonderful lake view then this is the place to go. Food served in the bar is also really good and the prices are cheap. Conditions of the huts are very basic, but that... More

Half the fun is in the travelling there and back. Enjoyed the countryside climb going up and the beach road coming back to Padang. Take time to take in the lake view from Puncak Lawang. Beautiful. Wrap yourself, it's cold up there!!! I had a good driver Romi (unfortunately he only speaks Bahasa Indonesia) who took the intiative to show... More
