Went here during my stay at Solo, everything is very original. I can only visit the rear part of the Kraton, where there are museums. You cannot go beyond the simple border of sign that visitor outside of the kraton cannot go inside. Because the Royal Families of Solo actually still living there. More

The most important palace in Solo. Lots of relics and traditional items on display. However in terms of architecture and areas that can be accessed, Pura Mangkunegara is better. More

As the principal heir of the mataram sultanate (which ruled the whole of Java in the 17th century), this palace is probably the oldest and culturally richest in Java. First time to step into an eerie compound. But as you go along, you marvel at magnificent Javanese art, with some mix of European architecture, especially in the main hall. Guards asked me to take off my flip-flops, which didn't make much sense because tourists wearing shoes were allowed to walk through without taking them off...so what's the diff bet... More

This is my second time to visit Kraton Kasunanan after several years ago from my first visit. Now per person is charged for IDR 10.000. There was no significant change at all if compared to the 1st visit. The equipment, royal wagon, paintings, weapons, war medals, all look the same: dusty and rustic. It was a pity that this historical... More

As an Indonesian coming from Javanese roots, I must say that this site is a very very precious historical site. Tracking back to Indonesian history from the end of 16th century, this site was initiating the history of modern Javanese kingdom in Surakarta and Yogyakarta, and even an integral part of overall modern Indonesia's histories. Unfortunately, we could quickly see... More
