It is in fact a dark cave with some worn statues. Maybe I am missing the point, but the shop area was bigger than the attraction itself.

Most unusual 9th century elephant cave just on the outer edge of Ubud. Take a local tour guide it's worth the entertainment and inside information. These remains are thought to be of the same era as the grand Borobudur temple in central Java. Also the site holds relics of the God Shiva.

Like many of the very old temples throughout Indonesia, there are many areas of disrepair at this temple. It is beautiful. I enjoy contemplating the times when this temple was first made, and the devotion of the first people to worship here. The Balinese people are a very dedicated and deeply religious people. My drivers walked through the place with... More

The temple itself is not the main attraction here, but the surroundings are. You can loose yourself for hours in the rice fields, jungle, waterfall, gardens.... it's all quite stunning.

The Elephant Cave itself is interesting, but the gardens and surrounds are outstanding. We also saw villagers harvesting rice etc and had a nice chat to them. Go there!

To me, this is a must see but don't spend too much time in it. It is a small temple but unique so it stands out. You have to know the story to appreciate it. Inside the cave, there are three different altars. It is small and dark . It is wide inside so no crawling or squeezing. Besides the... More

I believe there are so many Indonesia's history related to this cave. From "lingga" and "yoni" sculpture that, if i'm not mistaken, is a symbol of genital of human. It's seems nothing precious until you hear the story behind.

Built in the 9th century, Goa Gajah or "Elephant Cave'' served as a sanctuary. The primary figure was once thought to be an elephant, hence the nickname Elephant Cave. At the façade of the cave is a relief of various menacing creatures and demons carved right into the rock at the cave entrance. This site was added to the UNESCO... More
