of the Taj Mahal. The story goes that Sher Jahan was inprisioned here by his son. His prison/room looked out at the Taj Mahal which he had build for his dead wife Mumtaz Mahal, as a punishment. I very sad story but a very interesting place to visit.

The fort is amazing Indian architecture and well worth viewing. If you get a guide you may have to remind them to talk to you while standing in the shade and not under the midday sun. Take plenty water with you. You,ll need it. That said it was good.
The red sandstone really keeps the heat in, so even if the day is cooling off slightly, if it is hot, you will feel even hotter. If you delight in Mughal architecture, don't miss this.
Although the fort itself is mostly used by the military, you have tourist access to the bedroom of the 3rd & favorite wife of the builder of the Taj as well as the prison where he was under house arrest by his own son & looked at the Taj daily in memory of his wife...our Trinetra guide gave us really...

We took the audio guide around which was really enjoyable listening to all of the history accompanied by music and historical accounts of the time. Seeing the Taj through the Fort's courtyard windows along the river was stunning. Definitely worth a visit for a few hours.
If visiting in summer, take in plenty of water and a big hat. There are some lovely places to just sit and absorb the surroundings. Well worth have a guide for the day to cover both the Fort and the Taj Mahal
We couldn't see as much of it as we did in 2009 because the military had, apparently, taken over large parts of it. Parts we could see and could see no presence of military or otherwise.
After the Taj Mahal we went to the Agra fort. An impressive structure that is in a way linked tot he Taj Mahal. Nothing spectacular, but a nice historical perspective about how Indai was governed in the 17 th century. Do the Taj MAhal and the Agra fort in one day, it will be a day well spent.
The night light and sound "show" is waisting your time and money. You will get only exactly what you see at the advert: just some light and some sound. That's a real cheating.
The Fort is just heavy built , with aerodynamics and Acoustics to its perfection , it is real gem of Mughals of course for us. The view of Taj from the fort is spectacular . A real treat for the eye
