Though it is customary to worship siva and then parvathi, in Madurai you worship Meenakshi and then Chockanathar. Meenakshi blesses US with her benevolence. A temple identified with its architecture and statues. The statues in Kambathadi are adorable. More

Awesome architecture, some amazing carvings and a fascinating insight into the Hindu religion. Tourists are allowed to go everywhere except the inner sanctum, and there is so much to see here. this is 2000 years old cultural heritage . one of the largest temple complex of its kind in India having four massive gateways . Hall of thousand pillars add glory to this uniquely painted temple.when you tap the musical pillars carved out of stones, each pillar produces different musical notes. More

We were looking forward to going to see the Meenakshi temple and it was as beautiful as we though, but as with the rest of the temples in the area it is a business, so it kind of cheapened the experience More

The temple is definitely a spectacle, however, foreigners cannot enter the inner parts. This means that as a non-Hindu, you are limited to the outer walkways and few shrine rooms.
