The owner makes the museum an interesting stop. Allow about 30 minutes, or more if you want the puppet show, which we didn't have time for. The owner takes you around and explains some ofthe treasures there, we found him passionate about his collections. There are some real gems there. Ths booklet that he write is worth buying, we used... More

dust covers all the few objects in display in this badly kept museum,a pity in such a beautiful building. if you listen to the tape given at the entrance, you will be informed by the rani in person that the city suffers from scarcity of water, but she doesn't say why her family, having ruled for long time, never built a sufficient reservoir for... This is a hidden gem of Jaisalmer totally worth visiting. Loved the fact that this is one man's effort to document and preserve the culture of the region. The puppet show was so charming!

This small museum has a nightly puppet show, which was definitely worth seeing. The show is actually a set of musical numbers with live music, and puppet dancing. Before each number the narrator gives an explanation of the upcoming skit in both Hindi and English. Each number has some historical significance keeping with the Thar Heritage theme of the museum.... More

This small museum is the passion of a local amateur anthropologist and shopkeeper, Mr. Laxmi Khatri. In addition to the museum, Mr. Khatri has written an excellent booklet on the history and culture of the Jaisalmer region. Reading through this booklet (it is very well-written and not too long) really improved my understanding of some of the people and villages... More

There are typically two shows (~30 minutes duration I beleive) every evening. The ticket price is Rs.60/ per head (don't remember the exact figure, might be off by a bit) The puppet show per se is very interesting and the owner himself is a dramatic man, giving introductions about each act of the puppet interspersed with his personal views about... As other reviewers have described, this is a quirky museum run by one very charismatic owner. I had to laugh when we had the same experience as others-- just show up to the door of the place and out of nowhere a young person will let you in and the owner follows shortly after. Allow 30 minutes or so-- not... More

I chanced across this small private museum while I was walking in the city. The owner came after a few minutes, and was very informative abut the items. He is very interested in the culture of the outlying villages.

We found this place while wandering along the backstreets of Jaisalmer, and found the owner to be very interesting , and passionate about his subject. The entrance fee is minimal, and he didn't even try to sell us loads of artifacts!

I was very impressed with this little gem of a find hidden away in Jaisalmer. It ALWAYS open, you just have to ask the Mr. Khatri, owner of shop around corner. Do yourself and the museum a favor and stop by, it's cheap, you will learn a lot an be impressed with the local collection.
