I was asked to pinpoint the best location I visited during my Kerala trip. I had no hesitation but to point out Thekkady. Granted Munnar, Cochi, Trivandrum, Kasarkodh, Ellapy and many many others have their our charm but for a tourist to relax and enjoy the natural beauty, Thekkady is the best for me. Almost all hotels have a forest...

The GAVI trip was the highlight of the Thekkady stay.. You start 5.30 a.m for a full day picnic in the jungle.. The safari by jeep was average as our driver was young and impatient.. But once inside GAVI the staff and views were awesome.

Though not many animals are spotted but you would definitely spot elephants, bisons, wild boars and some birds.
Thekkady situated 170km from cochin is where you can watch the famous Periyar wild life sanctuary. Thekkady and Kumily are confused most of the times where we stay at Kumily during our Thekkady trip as most of the hotels are at Kumily and thekkady has few KTDC hotels only. Thekkady and Kumily are just 1 km apart
Cochin to thekkady...

We took an early morning boat ride which was quite disappointing. We thought we'd bought an upper deck ticket...silly us. Several boats left together so the noise factor probably kept animals away. We saw birds and garu(?). That night we did a late evening safari and again saw very little...some eyes glowing in the dark and some fresh dung along...

We were very lucky to view Elephants, Bisons, Dears etc during our Priyar Lake Boat Trip. The scenic beauty of the Periyar Lake during the evening boat trip was out of the world. We did a 3 hours walking inside the sanctuary ...conducted by the forest department...it was very refreshing...could feel the jungle ...though have not seen much animals except birds...
