The experience was wonderful. You get to see how they put the make-up on and an insight into what a Kathakali is all about. Well worth the money and a great evening.

Watching the performers apply their make-up before the show was interesting in itself. When one of the performers fell asleep and started snoring while part of his mask was being glued to his face was an unexpected joy :) The performance itself was really interesting. Like that they show a different part of the story each evening. Great price!

Thoroughly enjoyed this performance, even though it is geared towards foreigners. It gave of the opportunity to learn about Kathakali and observe short performances. I would say that it is a must-do if you don't plan on seeing any other Kathakali in Kerala.

We went to the Kerala Kathakali Centre to see their evening kathakali show and it was really great. I'd definitely recommend it. It's worth going an hour early too to watch the actors make up as the transformation is incredible! They give a short helpful explanation of kathakali for tourists which I'm sure made me appreciate the performance more. We... More

It is well worth arriving in time to watch the makeup session as you are able to take photographs. The care and attention to detail in the application of the make up alone is fascinating. There is an explanation and demonstration of the various hand movements and facial expressions which is helpful along with a handout outlining the story being... More

Make- up session starts at 5 pm till 6 pm, but it' s no problem if you arrive towards the end of the session. But DON'T miss it altogether! It 's fascinating to watch the make- up being put on and the paper being cut and applied to the actors face. After the make -up session one of the actors... More

We went to the evening performance and watched the make being applied, I do hope there was no lead in the paint! The explanation of the movements is essential to your understanding of the performance. The drummer boy is superb and it is very interesting if a little 'odd'.i think the program must have been shortened as we were only... More

We had no idea about Kathakali but by the end we were enchanted. We arrived early and watched the performers put on their makeup made from pure pigments and in striking colours. Then there was an explanation of the movements and expressions which represented the various emotions of the performers but by the time the dance had started I had... More
