If you are lazy to drive far and equally having a feeling of just going out somewhere that doesn’t require any planning and prior booking, then you have hit the right destination. There is a dam here, though it was closed when we visited as the water level in the dam was above the permissible limit for allowing the visitors. However there is another point on the way to dam, which gives a very picturesque view of the river converging into the hills. This scenic place is quite windy and can be a good spot if you are planning for a mini picnic.
On the way to the dam, you can stop by to visit the Big Banian tree. It’s a one time visit destination.

The place is just 12-14kms before the Savandurga hills. The view of the dam is mesmerizing but one needs to book a resort to have the great experience one wants to have.

Public transportation facilities are available to reach this location. But it’s great when you drive along with your friends.

There are small restaurants which serve fried fish and other items on the way which are super tasty.

We wanted to go for a short trip near Bangalore and came across this place which is not very far from Bangalore. We started at 1:00pm and reached the place at 3:00. The place is accessible from Mysore Road and has a decent road to take your vehicle.
The reservoir is nestled between hills from three sides and the place looks really lovely from distance. We were not allowed to go near the dam or the reservoir. We drove further down and many people were enjoying bath in the downstream of the river (more of a stream).

We looked around for any place near the reservoir but all the roads were closed. Finally we discovered a nice hillock overlooking the lake (reservoir) and decided to explore. The car won't go there, hence we parked the car on the roadside and walked to the top. What we discovered was really mind blowing.. The view of the valley, the lake and the hills.. It was a beautiful canvas. We spent some good time there till sunset..

Visited Manchanabele Dam today. The place is beautiful. However, we could not venture much as it rained heavily just after we reached. They don't allow entry to the dam.

This place is easy to locate using google maps. The mobile signals work fine in this place. There is no entry ticket. There are no shops or restaurants near by. This place not only has a dam but, flowing water to take a dip in, wide spread field to play some outdoor games, pitch up a picnic table or a picnic blanket, for photography and filming or just cycle. There is a Temple and a Dargah. A family with kids can enjoy quality time spending outdoors on a lazy weekend. A couple of friends can enjoy a long bike ride or a long drive to this place and have a pleasant and fun-filled weekend. This place is relaxing and soothing for those who want to enjoy a long ride/drive and simply enjoy nature's beauty. Photography lovers can drop by for some nature clicks. Cycling lovers can plan a cycling event to this place.

This can be additional place to visit while visiting the Big Banyan Tree. As the name suggests, it is essentially a dam. It is approximately 40 kms from Bangalore and is built across the river Arkavathi, whose main purpose was to use the water for irrigation.

You can have a look at the water body and the dam from far away, since there is restriction on the entry to the place, due to some unfortunate incident that had taken place a few years ago.

The place is good place for birding and for landscape photography. The ride towards the dam is through a proper tar road and you may park your vehicle on the side of the road, get down and walk down the hill. The setting is extremely serene and pleasant. Although there are no proper places for you t sit and enjoy the view, you may actually sit on the ground and take in the vast landscape adorned with hills, tress and scrubs.

You may plan on spending 30 mins to an hour here, since you do not have any other activities to do except for taking in the view.

Happy Travelling.

An average place that one can visit simply because it's one of the closest places to drive to from Bengaluru for a sunrise view. Don't expect much from this place. It's just a dam that is visible from the road as you drive-by. It is closed for public, of course. While you could visit the dam, the sunrise view is much better about 2 kms before the dam. Park your vehicle by the side of the road and walk to one of the hills to get a sunrise view on one side and the dam on the other.
