Daal lake is so natural and serene. Shikara ride is awesome. Best time to visit is April to October. Was very cold in Feb, specially staying at the houseboat. Friendly people around and lots of silk goods available at good price.

I recommend only a few hours at any houseboat. Here is my experience of Azad Palace Houseboat in Dal Lake. Those who have stayed in house boat in kerala are advised to skip this houseboat stay and are advised to only take shikara ride which will take you 3 hours boating... that is enough... not worth in staying in houseboat... no food will b available... have to come each time to city thru boat for food...

I should say in one word "Grand" and I will give it a first-rate, its very good, splendid view when watching such majestic house boats where beautiful carving is done all over, rich is interiors & exteriors as well. Its a dignified sketch of riding in a fairy land.

From outside the houseboats looks ordinary but once inside it is a completely different picture. The interiors are completely wooden which is very well crafted and the flooring is carpeted. we spent one day & night in the house boat..food was good..unusally chilly...blankets bedsheets everything was good...however the bathroom facilities were very poor..but otherwise it was a good experience..
