I didn't take a guided tour, I just wandered around the fort myself. It was amazing to see the city from the view of the look out towers on the castle.

I have been to Cartagena twice and twice visited this castle. It blows away other Spanish castles in the Caribbean. Well maintained, very large, one could spend 2-3 hours but I'd recommend 1-2 hours due to the heat. Use sunblock and a hat. For a respite from the heat, visit the tunnels. We went in the afternoon which was probably the wrong time of day. It was hot, hot, hot. I imagine going in the evening would be a more pleasant experience. There where a few shaded spots where you can seek refuge and take some good pictures of the wonderful views. Well worth it. Don't forget the sunscreen!
The best part of the castle were the tunnels you could explore through. The fortress also offered good views of the city.
Very nice castle on top of a mountain with some pathways inside the mountain, a really nice place to visit
Its nice and would have getted a 4/5 if its not for the price. 17000 i think is expensive for a thing like this in a country as this. The view fron the fort is really nice and the fort is pretty intressting as well but not a huge fan of things like this. Even if its big and all...

Impressive structure, great for taking pictures. No shade other than in the tunnels so VERY HOT! Wear a hat and bring some water.
Enjoyed the size and history of the site. Lacks information about its construction, use and history, but has significant structural impact.
You pay 50,000 COP (around 27 USD) for a half day tour with a chiva that goes to Old shoes, San Felipe Castle, La Popa hill and the old city. Much cheaper than taking a taxi to go to each one of those places.
This castle was almost the purpose of our visit. Our kids were eager to go inside and learn about the history of this place and all about pirates. It is beautiful. It also have some views of the city.
