I used to live in Pocitos many years ago, as a child. Now that I return from time to time to Montevideo, I like to stretch my legs around Pocitos, which remains a nice neighborhood although it has grown fast and not always in the best direction. Nice coffee shops, bookstores, restaurants and walks. As for the beach, you can... More

The Playa de Pocitos is a river beach of the Rio de La Plata in Montevideo. It is well mantained by teh city council, although I reaaly don't know if it is a place to swim (at this point of the winter it surely isn't). Its a meeting point at weekends and the sidewalk in front of it is very... More

When you tire of the graffiti and bustle of Montevideo and the tackiness of Punta del Este, the British Cemetery offers a lovely respite. In the early days of the 19th century, there was considerable fussing in Uruguay over who could be buried where. Nobody wanted the Protestants. The British were eventually allowed to keep the land they had acquired... More

the neighborhood is just old and decrepit. It used to be a lovely middle class area, now it is full of dog droppings, broken side walks and traffic, traffic, and more traffic. Just stay on the rambla and it looks great, particularly at night. don't go inland..

Pocitos is a pleasant, upscale neighborhood in Montevideo, with interesting architecture and plenty of trees. It is reasonably safe, close to the beach, and has excellent bus connections to the rest of the city. It is certainly recommended as a neighborhood to stay in if you are visiting Montevideo. Much of Montevideo is rather grubby and rather depressing, despite the... More

Pocitios has it all: big, safe beach; tree lined streets with good restaurants & services and frequent bus connections to Downtown Montevideo. From the Rambla and Espana, #104 was the fastest to Plaza Independencia - 15 to 20 minutes; #14 most direct to Cuidad Vieja. For vacation rentals, beware of Trip Advisor sites that have no reviews. If you want to be in an area where you don't need to speak Spanish and can talk to your neighbors and people at the market and restaurants then Pocitos is for you. It is a very expat rich area of Montevideo so what you miss is a lot of the local flavor and culture available in the city. Pocitos... More

Pocitos is one of the better aereas in Montevideo. Nice shops and good restaurants. Regarding to the old town the place is much safer.

One of best neighborhoods in the city with lots of shops and beach access. Good for just strolling around in what seems to be a fairly safe neighborhood.
