I was very apprehensive of climbing Huayna Picchu when I read the reviews and saw the pictures of HP in Tripadvisor. I could not back out as we have confirmed the booking and my tour mates insisted on going. Well, the climb was not easy for me especially when I am an elderly Asian who has not been exercising. I... Tougher than the Inca Trail in terms of big boulders or steps, but shorter distance. You feel pressed for time as the Rangers shut down the park at 4p so keep hoofing it. Imperative to bring a hiking pole with you with a good rubber stop to it, esp when coming down. Only bushes to pee so plan your fluid... More

I fully recommend this climb, particularly the 7-8 am slot during non-peak season, as there are no crowds, its peaceful and you can do the climb at your own pace. Good hiking shoes, sensible clothes and concentration are a must - as is a decent fitness level! My husband and I are in our mid-twenties and consider ourselves to be... More

My husband and I climbed Huaynapicchu at 7 am a little over a week ago while visiting Machu Picchu. It's a steep ascent but totally doable, with ropes to assist in some more precarious spots. It took us only 45 minutes to reach the top--and it was totally clouded in. We waited, and about 30-40 minutes later, the clouds parted... More

We added this to our travel package which was arranged and booked through Uncover Latin America. It does take some good planning to do this hike, firstly we were advised to book this more than 1 month in advance. Spaces are limited and it does sell out quickly. We visited Machu Picchu twice and did the Huayna Picchu on the... More

We reserved tickets to the early entry thinking we would get to Machu Picchu early to see the sunrise then head up to Huayna Picchu. Well, we didn't realize that it's often very foggy in the morning, and you rarely get a great sunrise view. It was still nice to enjoy the serenity of Machu Picchu before the tourist rush... More

The Huayna Picchu hike was the best part of our visit to Machu Picchu. It is a challenging hike but certainly do-able even if you need to take frequent breaks. We obtained tickets to the early hike on a foggy morning and stayed on the mountain top until the fog cleared. The views from there are fantastic!

Pick the 7am slot as it gets really hot soon after. Do book online at least 2 weeks in advance! The climb up was ok (abt 1,300 steps) but it was very squeezy at the peak so best if you are the first few. It's a different way down for a bit before it merges so look for the sign... More

An amazing experience to hike up Huyana Picchu. If you have the time in machu Picchu, make sure you do this climb to get the most awesome bird's eye views of machu picchu. The climb is challenging but definitely doable. I just felt on top of the world as I managed to get to the very top in May 2013... More

Very tired but worth the effort. Luckily we went there in the morning round that it was not too hot. But when going down, nearly 11:00 was very hot. Avoid latter round as possible.
