The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is among the oldest catholic church building in Singapore. When i was visiting with my wife and son, the building itself seems to require restoration especially the facade that requires structural restrengthening. It is recommended to visit this building as part of a religious pilgrimage during a mass. The atmosphere ands urroundings and the... More

The oldest Roman Catholic church in Singapore, the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd does somewhat resemble St. Martins Academy of the Fields church at Trafalgar Square in London from the outside. As a previous poster mentioned, it does seem this house of worship is overdue for a restoration project. While we found what seemed to be some minor refurbishment work... More

I attended Mass here while visiting Singapore. As with other churches here, it is not air conditioned. The walls are peeling and cracked. But what impressed me the most was the attendance. I attended the Sunday evening Mass, and it was packed. They are currently raising funds for a restoration project, which is badly needed.

Built only with donations and not with government funds, the cathedral is in good shape considering its age. Wander around the cathedral and read off the interesting plaques scattered around the walls and floors. Drop by the Bishop's house next door to say Hi. Cathedral will be empty during off peak hours like any other churches but will be filled... More

It was really sad so see just how neglected this church was, in such a wealthy country. While the facade of the church was in acceptable condition (despite some repairs being made on it), upon entering it, you immediately notice just how poor and neglected this church really is - cheap wooden ornaments, dirty isles, fans (and not a/c in... The Church is quite small and does not have enough ventilation, especially for important celebrations such as this. The Prayer Kneelers are made of wood and does not have a foam or soft cover on top, and thus, you might need to sacrifice a little while kneeling. But despite this, there are still a lot of people who visit and... More

This cathedral is the oldest Catholic church in Singapore but does not boast the architecture splendor of other cathedrals / churches found in other countries. It still makes for a great visit any time of the day to have a look at this humble church built during the early part of the colonial era (it was obvious they did not... More

This large church was impressive. The building is lovely and occupies a large city block. Inside the cathedral it is peaceful and quiet, with a relaxing atmosphere. The decoration in the Cathedral was fantastic and I found the place to be impressive. All the doors were wide open and I felt very welcome as a visitor with camera in hand.... More

Attended Sunday Mass here in June 2010. Very close to the Bras Basah MRT station. Get there early to listen to the men’s and woman’s choirs practicing. The choirs then parade into the church in their robes. They sing a wonderful selection of English and Latin hymns. The church itself is badly in need of repairs with cracks in the... More
