I stayed near Stirling Road and Hort Park is just around the corner from Alexandra Hospital and is at one end of the Alexandra Arch Bridge. This is the third time I came here. The first time I dropped by here when I intend to take the forest walk to Henderson Waves. The second time, I passed by this park while on my way to explore Kent Ridge Park. I did not spend much time here during the last two occasions and it was just touch and go. But this time I stayed longer for about 2 hours.
The Visitor Centre was closed as today is a public holiday. Unlike the previous occasions where I witnessed wedding ceremony held at the viewing platform and sumptuous banquet at the Vineyard restaurant, there was no wedding this time. It was quiet and missed the opportunity to see the pretty charming faces of the brides.
I walked down to the Canopy restaurant at the ground floor and there was a crowd of patrons having their late breakfast or brunch. The restaurant looks unique with plants hanging down from the ceiling and decorative potted plants studded around the corners. I would come to patronise this restaurant one day with my family and to see if their culinary art is good. There was a shop selling plants and gardening accessories in front of the restaurant and if you want to learn on how to build your own pot, you can consult them daily from 10 am to 7 pm daily. I understand that it is free.
I walked further down to the Balinese Garden; the Edible Garden, the Therapeutic Garden, the Allotment Garden, the Butterfly Garden, the Medicine Garden, the Orchid Garden, the Nature playground, etc. I particularly like the Edible Garden and the Allotment Garden as they give me ideas on the type of the vegetables that I can grow at my balcony. I went around to browse at all the edible plants I know and I saw ladyfinger plants, the mini brinjal, papaya, sweet potato leaves. aloe vera. The strong fragrance of Pandan leaves pervaded the atmosphere as I rooamed at the Edible Garden.
I spoke to someone at the Allotment Garden who was seen cutting the sweet potato leaves that she harvested and she commented that diligence is imperative in caring for the plants otherwise it would overgrown or eaten by worms.
I love the different colourful species of orchid plants in the Orchid Garden but lamented not knowing much of the plants in the Medicine Garden. It would be ideal if Nparks can assign someone to station at the respective gardens to explain on the type of plants and how to grow them or provide complimentary seeds to those who are interested.
This Hort Park is very suitable for family outing especially for those with young kids. There are few playgrounds for children to enjoy. And this time, I saw a number of families brought their kids here to enjoy nature. The Nature Playground which is meant for kids fascinated me. It is good to inculcate in the young the love for nature. As I walk around the nature playground, the bee-hive box, the sound of the cicada and the whistling birds flooded my ears. The butterflies fluttering past me and suddenly a squirrel would dash out from no where up the tree. It would be real fun for kids to experience what is nature when most are brought up in the concrete jungle.
A Garden is a delight to the eye and a solace for the soul. I am not a Zen master but after walking here for an hour plus, I felt relieved and my mind turned out to be more calmer and less tense.

Again, I enjoyed my repeat visit to Hort Park as there are always new plants to discover and learn about. On the slope going down to the garden from the lobby, I was happy to see to uncommon creepers, the Silky Afgekia and the Elephant Creeper. I also enjoyed learning that Globe Amaranth is an edible plant grown in the Edible Garden together with the orange Cosmos flowers.
Another interesting feature is the various trees with roads named after them. All these informations are well explained on the sign board next to the trees. I learned that there are Kasai Road and Saraca Road in Singapore. In fact the nearby roads there are all named after plants and trees. Athough the orchid enclosure is a small area, we were pleasantly surprised to find the name of an orchid which we having been searching for. Children are well entertained here with the playground and the native garden.

Visited Hort Park yesterday.
Beautiful gardens once you find the entrance. The gardens do not offer much shade but there are areas you can sit out of the direct sun if you walk.
Great flora: figs, bananas, cotton, gingers etc. Lots of birds including collared kingfisher, mynahs, doves and bee catchers. Relax by the reservoir / pond. Nice to rest a while. Note exiting the park by the rear involves a steep walk - you have been warned. Nice, well laid out gardens with drinks vending machines and snacks in the centre area. Also a few restaurants but I didn’t explore.

Singapore has many gardens but this has got to be an essential on your Singapore bucket list. Divided into "bite sized" themed chunks it is an absolute joy to wander through. The children's exploration and play garden is a particular joy. Walking on to the tree top walk gave a further dimension to the visit.

Spent a lovely Saturday noon here with the family. Our first visit to the Park and we enjoyed tremendously.
Numerous small little gardens and playground scattered within. Sand pits too ! Easy to walk. Not many people when we were there.
My children got to see Cotton trees, Banana trees, cute Papaya trees, lemon tree and different types of vegetables and even brinjal.
Definitely an educational trip not only for them but us too! Highly recommended for families with young children.

Very pleasant park. Easy parking. There are currently two restaurants. The park can also be connected to other places

My nature walk yesterday morning.
This is more a constructed park than a patch of natural woodland with a wall around it. It’s segmentalise and includes allotments and a small reservoir. There are also academic facilities related to agriculture.
There is a butterfly park but not so many butterflies. Birds were not so plentiful as you may expect in a woodland area. Good selection of flowers and plants. Plantain squirrels were seen as was a changeable lizard and a skink. Different types of bananas were well represented.
I saw no snakes despite looking all around the reservoir and the back of the butterfly garden. There were some golden orb spiders about.
Art works can be seen and there is also a function room.
A visitor centre is at the main entrance but was closed when I arrived, and I exited via the back.

Hortpark is connected to Kent Ridge Park as well as Telok Blangah Hill Park. However it is easy to navigate the user-friendly paths in HortPark. Most plants and trees are labelled with their names and so a visit here is indeed educational. There are themed gardens such as Floral Walk, Vertical greenery, Pitter Patter Potter garden, Edible Garden, Butterfly Garden etc.
This park is also very suitable for young children as there is a Nature Playgarden as well.
Near the entrance facing Alexandra Road is HortHouse which is built in the early 20th century. This bungalow is built in the Arts and Craft Style and is restored in 2017 as Centre for Urban Greenery and Ecology (CUGE).
A good detour during a visit here is to walk in Alexandra Park which is next to HortPark. The leafy winding roads within Alexandra Park has names like Canterbury Road, Winchester Road, Cornwall Road etc. Furthermore the rolling hills and forest greenery of nearby Kent Ridge Park and the numerous large Black-and -Whites lend it a very British atmosphere. There are also a few Heritage trees seen here such as the Penaga Laut (at junction of Canterbury and Berkshire Roads). Opposite to the Heritage Bodhi Tree further along the Canterbury Road is a valley which is a popular destination for lovely wedding shots. The Heritage tree Common Pulai is seen along Royal Road. The oldest House here is 6 Russels Road which is also known as the Plantation House and was built in early 1900s. Another unique bungalow built in Art decor style is 1 Canterbury Road. Walking along Winchester Road, one can see Singapore's only clay tennis Court.

Second visit to the Southern Ridges ending at Hort Park, very near to the Kent Ridge Canopy Walk. Starting at Vivo City at 9am after a good breakfast at McDonald's, we took Exit D from the MRT station and went up a fairly steep incline using a number of stairs to reach the cable car station and then Henderson Waves to reach Hort Park at Alexandra in about 45 minutes.
This time we explored the gardens taking the spiral stairs from the Visitors Centre and were delighted to find a number of secluded and sculptured gardens like the Silver Garden and Golden Garden, the first named for the silvery trees and foliage and the other for the yellow hues of leaves and shrubbery. A beautifully symmetrical English Garden complete with Victorian statues and white trellis emerged while the Balinese garden was smaller and not so well developed. The Therapeutic Garden was very restful, sitting on the wooden bench in the breeze was euphoric. So much loving care has been bestowed on landscaping and maintaining these different plots, so charming in its its effects that I felt proud to be a Singaporean that we have such parks to wander in!
Didn't venture to the Kent Ridge Canopy Walk inviting though it was, next time probably.
Toilets are clean, thought full designed and maintained, you can refill your water bottle from at least two drinking fountains. There's a restaurant called The Vineyard which looked interesting but we headed for Alexandra Food Centre instead, hopping on bus 195,one stop away only but quite a distance, not walkable in the hot sun.

I always wondered what the alexendra bridge is famous for and why would they construct such beautiful bridge when there is nothing other place to walk to from the bridge, however my google maps research made me find this spot which is connected right with bridge of Alexandra road. The park is beautiful with lot of different types of floras and faunas . I went there with the thought to spend few hours, but ended up spending the entire day. The local caretaker would help you explore different species of plants around. Also there is a cafe inside the park, which serves decent fried rice. A decent hangout, away from the hustle-bustle.
