It sits there with smoke drifting out into the early morning air enticing you to come closer, which we did. We drove through small jungle tracks, seeing the devastation of the most recent eruption along the way. The closer we got we were able to clearly see the ragged edges of the top of the mountain. Crossed over a bridge... More

Definitely worth a half day trip to see, although the devastation from the erruption in Oct 11 still remains a stark reminder of the event. The locals are there rebuilding, and selling tourists drinks and various articles made from the lava. Definitely worth buying some as its hot, and to see the smiles on their faces. More

the view was ok... nothng much to see except for certain affected area.. It is still worth it to see how the volcano eruption can change life... When we went the mountain peak was covered with clouds so.. a slight dissappoinment. To me - only worth for one visitation. No fees, except two parking fees at different heights... More

We took a tour that included a trip to "see the devastation" from the last eruption in 2010. After an only so-so scenic drive, you reach the place where the village used to be. It has now been turned into a little tourist haven full of people hawking dirt bike trips, food, and drinks. After a half hour walk up... More

Went up to view the crater in the early morning. The site is well laid out and even though the volcano is not as spectacular as Bromo, Merapi was much easier to view. More

Well - this is one of the largest volcanoes in Indonesia and still active. It erupted only a couple of years ago. You can only get so far up it by car - then you can hike a little way or get on the back of a smiling young lady's motor bike, but to reach the summit you would need... More
