This was the area where the Dutch required the Chinese to live. Today, the whole area is called Glodok and includes traditional houses, markets, architecture and some very beautiful Chinese temples; the Da Shi Miao and the Vihara Dharma Bhakti temples are both popular tourist attractions. The Glodok Market is one of the great commercial centers of Jakarta where you can buy everything from antiques to laptops. « less

Not as much of a Chinatown as they have in SFO or NY. Its just lots of mid range old malls, and shops but nothing really Chinese (except the shop owners). The Suharto regime suppressed the Chinese culture, so there really isn't any Chinese character worth going for here. Great shopping for bargains though. More

The place sells all kind of things from pirated DVDs, Chinese quality electronics and others. For foreigner this place is pretty packed with sellers, and sometimes they offer some unreasonable price for a simple thing. beware of the Pick pockets around here. More

This area, like the name Chinatown, were where we found all Chinese sell their cheap stuff, start from electronics, medicines tools, Chinese herbs, or 'massage'. Most of the stuffs were in good quality, but it's depending on how we can clearly see. The area not actually comfort for shopping. No one enjoy this place to hang out with. The area only... More

If you think most parts of Jakarta is dirty and congested, wait till you get to this part! That aside, lots of local food, picture opportunities and super cheap stuff to buy. Especially if you're looking for a wholesaler of some sort, chances are you'll find it here. More
