The Hong Kong Museum of Art must have the best views of Hong Kong Island positioned as it is on the bottom most tip of Kowloon. Its rather grim exterior hides an absolute treasure trove of Chinese Art.
The way the museum is curated reminded me of Tate Modern. It has a mixture of permanent exhibits and temporary exhibitions. Sadly...

It does not appear well rated in Hong Kong's attractions, but I ended up there because our hotel was in front and it was raining. The location of the Museum is spectacular, but once inside it is small, the art collection unimpressive and although they have very important Chinese pieces, I was expecting much more from an art museum in...

I really enjoyed the Chinese porcelains and paintings in this museum. As a senior (60+) I only paid $5! There were tons of uniformed school children on field trips - most were well behaved and interested in the art, but a few were noisy. I just went to a different part of the museum for awhile until that group past....

Built in 1962, this ambitious and rather mammoth modernist building is really striking. I loved it, and felt that it must have been really something in it's time, and it still holds it's own today.
Entrance to the Museum was incredibly cheap - HK$10 per adult & HK$5 for a child. I was therefore really impressed by it's accessibility. We...

We were trying to visit the Space Museum, but found that it does not open until 1pm. Instead we visited the Museum of Art which opens at 10 AM. The Museum is closed on Thursdays.
The Museum has a very good collection of both artwork and pottery. I really like the broad collection of pottery-everything from ceramic pillows to water...

Located near Vic Harbour, it was within walking distance if you wish to explore the entire proximity of Salisbury Road/Canton Road/Hankow Rd areas. You have to take the underground connection cause you cannot cross the roads to get here.
I had wanted to see the ceramics/potteries exhibition and made the extra effort. Andy Warhol was also on but I wasn't...

We really enjoyed this introduction to Chinese art as we had just arrived in Hong Kong. The antiquities galleries with pottery/ ceramics presented in chronological order, helped put time in perspective. Other collections were also very interesting. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to visit all the galleries. Well spent time.
Watch out btw. I arrived to the museum on a Thursday, when it's closed. However the gift shop stays open and is a great stop for souvenirs and postcards. I visited again on Friday. My favorite exhibition was "A hundred Chinese paintings" which is a collection from different painters, anything from the Ming dynasty to the modern times. Old Chinese...

Easy location, and a good gift shop...and I really enjoyed the exhibit of art detailing colonial days. The older Chinese art was harder for me, so I appreciated the insights from the rented headphones....There was a special exhibit on a HK artist who used textures, and I was really impressed by the kid friendly room at the end where we...
