Our family had fun traipsing up and down this portion of the wall with a nice sprinkling of other tourists. It was "misting" rain so we had to cable car up and there was no toboggan down. The clouds and fog cleared a bit as we were finishing up so we got some great shots. We would have loved to... More

This is a wonderful section of the wall that allows you to experience the reconstructed wall and see the original wall from "still standing" to ruins. There is a ski lift that will take you to the top. you can hike it but allow an extra couple of hours. You will have to run the souvenir gauntlet on the way... More

If I had had more than one item on my bucket list (learn to surf), "seeing the Great Wall" would have been included. Well, at least in retrospect. I cannot say why, but I am actually proud to have visited it. Yes, proud.

This part of the wall is far less crowded than badaling, and it offers a few different options depending on what you are looking for - chair lift, gondola, and the awesome tobogan ride down the mountain. If you want, you can do a pretty hefty hike from here to the highest points, or you can take it easy and... More

Liked: Not too crowded, easy access via cable car, steps on the great wall was not too difficult to climb. Many spots where we could climb upstairs to enjoy the view Disliked: Distance from Beijing and the traffic jam to and fro. It took almost 3 hours one way. It was drizzling so we got wet and cold

We enjoyed the walk from the cable car exit all the way to the toboggan ride. Getting there early might help ...as you can get pictures of yourself without others in the background. I was worried about the toboggan ride and their announcement which repeated every minute " tobbogoning is a dangerous sport". Again one I attempted as my adventurous... More

But you're really there. So beautiful and so far away feeling. We went late in the afternoon and there were hardly crowds at all. Plus I don't know what was more enjoyable to my husband and son, finally getting to visit the Great Wall or the tobogan ride down at the end. Whatever you do, don't miss that fun twist!

We think we made a good decision about which part of the Great Wall to see. We went on a tour, which had only 7 people so that was nice. We had two hours at Mutianyu which allowed us to walk as far as we could walk (the restored section) and back. Although there were heaps of tour buses in... More

OK, touristy YES. However, this is the GREAT WALL OF CHINA, which you have read about as a kid. Go early to avoid the crowds and capture that "Christmas Card" photo of the year, and dammit, EVERYONE has to smile and LOOK overwhelmed with the experience, EVEN the teenagers ( I am a retired high school principal). One of the... More

We ended at Mutianyu - it is touristy but nonetheless interesting. Book a guide and hike the old wall - amazing sense of history
