I attended Hutong Chinese dumplings cooking class with my boyfriend & parents (all French) on 30th of April in the evening. It was just WONDERFUL !!! Very nice location in a typical Chinese lane-house in Hutong, small class (10 persons and apparently there are usually way less people during 1 class), all clean facilities, very good & friendly teacher in... We booked this class having experienced another class at a different hutong Kitchen. I would not recommend this class as few skills were taught, all the ingredients were already prepared so there was no slicing and dicing. Those of us who arrived on time had to wait whilst a group who arrived 35 mins late caught up with the rest... More

We strive to provide exceptional classes each time out, and it humbles us when we fall short. That being said, we would like to thank you for your review, and for taking the time to point out where and why we did not meet your expectations. Our policy is to start classes on time, regardless of whether or not another... More

If you are looking for a China adventure, the Hutong is your place to go! The location is ideal, and the classes are interesting, authentic and accessible. That's a rare combo anywhere. In Beijing it's a near miracle! A group of families recently scheduled a week-long private cycling adventure in Yunnan with the Hutong and it rates as one of... More

My husband and I were traveling to Beijing from Louisiana and we wanted to experience some of the local food and culture. A friend of ours recommended the Hutong's cooking class. It was awesome! They taught us all about their local spices while showing us how to slice and dice their fresh vegetables like bamboo! When the class was done... More

I was part of a school trip that took 20 students to Beijing earlier this month. We spent a day at their Hutong Cultural Exchange Center and it was incredible. They taught the students how to make dumplings, sent them off on a scavenger hunt around The Hutong (students had to buy items from local vendors, navigate themselves around the... More

We went on a Tea Tour with Jessica from the Hutong which was very interesting & highly informative and a lot of fun. Cooking at the Hutong is also highly recommended. I have done the Szechuan course & the dumpling course.

I took The Hutong's 6 week Chinese cooking course and it was great. I learned a lot about Chinese cuisine and preparation, as well as many useful knife skills. We had a different Chef each time. Some Chefs were better teachers than others, but they all spoke clear English and were great cooks. My one complaint is that our Sichuan... More

I purchased the 6-course card (1100RMB, valid for a year, can be shared between two friends) and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The diversity of cooking classes offered, ranging from Chinese hand-pulled noodles to Pakistani cuisine, is perfect for those who want to expand their culinary repertoire. Both the quality of instruction and the... More

Having taken several cooking classes at the Hutong, I have to say that they have been incredibly fun and make me want to keep going back. Aside from excellent teachers and a large variety of classes and experiences, the Hutong has been a fantastic place to meet an interesting and diverse range of expats living in the city.
