Beautiful Island, with many photo opportunities, but need to go really early. Nubian boat people are friendly, but you pay extra money for the Nile lift. Guards are friendly, and you need to tip them. There is almost no tourism for 2 years, and it is getting tight.

Lovely setting in the flooded valley. A touch of humanity in the graffiti left by Napoleons troopers, not detracting from the timeless beauty of the architecture of the place.

We took a boat to Philae Island & it was exciting to see the Temple unfold as we sailed around to it - again great explanation & information from our guide Keralis & then time to explore for ourselves - a large site with many interesting features - well worth a visit ...

I can never get enough of Egyptian antiquities and the Temple of Philae is no exception. Approached by boat, the temple is reminiscent of Karnak, but on a smaller scale. An incredible history, as it was relocated because of the dam, and a must see on any tour of Aswan. There's a lovely coffee shop here as well to try.

The sound and light show is well done (although overwritten and a bit too long), but going at night does not allow you to really see the temple. If you have a choice between the show and going during the day, I'd urge you to go during the day. As with many other places in Egypt, you will like the... More

Really loved travelling by boat to the temple- i think that heightened my fascination and excitement for this place. It is beautiful and well worth the visit. Different from some of the other temples but no less intriguing

After seeing lots of temples in Upper Egypt, it was hard to concentrate on details when we arrived to the Temple of Philae. There are certainly more impressive temples in Egypt, but still, this one is beautiful as well and worth of a visit when being in Aswan. It is a beautiful sight when approaching it with a boat and... Not far from the town. Interesting contrasts in architecture and decoration. Getting to the island by boat is a great way to get there.

I don't know if it's just that after seeing so many temples in Egypt this was a bit of a let down for me or i was over just over looking at yet more temples. I was disappointed that it was vandalised in the first century AD from the Christians chiseling off most of the noses of the Pharos. Getting... More

Philae Temple is situated on an island in the Nile so is only accessible by boat but the views on approach are stunning. The temple was dismantled into 40,000 blocks, moved & rebuilt in 1960 to avoid being flooded by the rising Nile. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Isis, the first daughter of Geb & Nut, who married... More
