amazed by what the Egyptians were able to accomplish; saddened by how dirty the area is, as if modern Egypt has lost respect for their forefathers.

Must see sight. Awe inspiring.
Now for the bad news.
Loathe to say this but the pyramids now so resemble the Wild West it is almost impossible to go independently and enjoy.
We were staying at Mena House, about 100m from 1 of 2 gates, and the aggression from the sellers, camel riders etc was atrocious. So was the rubbish....

The title speaks for itself.
The pyramids and the sphinx are why tourists go to Egypt so of course they are 5 out of 5. However once you have seen them, been sufficiently awed and taken their photographs, there is little to do here. In my opinion paying extra to go down inside one or other of the Giza pyramids...

My sister and I went to the Pyramids and we travelled around the area on horses (sickly and weak ones though). It was one of a kind experience and we really enjoyed our time there. if you are going alone and not part of a group or a tour, choose the carousel (chariot pulled by a horse) to stay in the shades and have a relatively comfortable ride. Bargain the prices requested by guides always. Try riding the Camel for photos.
VISIT TIP: Go early to avoid the crowds and the heat. You know you have to visit here. It's spectacular!

The hassle of the souvenir touts and the tiresome Egyptian requests for extra payments and 'tips' is really annoying, but nothing can take away...

Lots of people selling cheap souvenirs and they do hassle you a lot so be prepared. If you go to view the boat as well watch out for the 'guides' inside that will go round with you and expect a tip
One of the most fascinating places I've already seen in my life. With a camel ride or a horse riding, unforgettable.Just bargain the prices for riding!
