This Mosque is one of the finest examples of Abbasid architecture left in the world. Ahmed ibn Tulun was the governor of Egypt on behalf of the Caliph in Baghdad and as such it looks more like it belongs in Iraq than cairo. The minaret is the only spiral one in existence outside of Iraq (as far as i'm aware)... more

This place has a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. The oldest mosque in Cairo its simplicity compared to later period mosques makes it both charming and a great place to start any tour of Islamic monuments in Cairo. more

This beautiful mosque is located in the heart of Islamic Cairo. Built by Ahmed Ibn Tulun between 876 and 879 AD it is one of the oldest and largest Mosques in Egypt.
