a very old quarter just north of the old city across the large highway opposite the citadel..filled with backpackers hotels, cafes ancient Ayubid and Memluk mosques, Hammams, etc..it is called little Istanbul.
it is about 800 years old so not as ancient as the old city inside the walls but is worth a visit if you have some time
