We stopped here for lunch as part of a cycle tour. The cashew chicken at restaurant on land, was among top 3 dishes we've ever had!! Worth an hours drive from Chiang Mai.
It is about an hour drive from the main city of Chiang mai..Before i write something about the dam,i would like to point out two things...don't go without prior booking, even if you are going just for a day out..as it was hard for us to get a tail boat that could take us to the floating restaurant. Secondly, either have your... More
I went here with my boyfriend and a mutual friend while he was visiting us in Chiang Mai. The lake appears to be VERY clean!! And it is an incredible escape from the city! It only takes about an hour to drive there - but I think it would be difficult to do if you didn't have your own transportation... More
It is like getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life into a wilderness away from everything. A nice place to go and relax. Minimal technology interference, if that is what you prefer.
Stayed a night during our 8-day trip of Chiangmai to Chiangrai. Is really beautiful and peaceful. At the boat house, don't expect any posh accommodation and services. Electricity is only turned on at certain timings, so remember to turn on the water heater and also to charge your phones. It is so tranquil and relaxing that we borrowed a straw... More
This is a great day out from Chiang Mai. The dam is very beautiful, surrounded by hills and mountains, with floating restaurants. It's about an hour's drive from Chiang Mai, inside a national park. Once at the dam, you take a long tail boat to one the floating restaurants. Ekachai is the one I like best. Here you can eat... More
We decided to visit this lake on a hot day so we could cool off a bit. On arrival a longtail boat took us to one of the floating guesthouses where we had lunch (delicious thai style fresh fish) and rented canoes. It was lovely an quiet as we went during the week but the owner of the guesthouse said... More
We visited here recently as part of a tour with Active Thailand, we paddled across the lake on kayaks to the floating villages for lunch. The lake is peaceful and calm, the views are quite pretty, and it wasn't too busy when we were there. Saw a few people in motor boats going back and forth, probably can organise these... More
The boat ride is half the fun. Nice place to relax, and enjoy a day out. Kayaking, swimming. Nice food at the Ekachai House Boats.
The Thai seem to enjoy this for a holiday. For the foreign tourist, the most interesting part may only be the different type of watercraft used. Yet sitting back and enjoying the experience can be quite relaxing.
