A great place to stay. Easy to get to ferry pier and then boat to other parts of the city. Close to China Town and kao San Rd
Phra Athit Road is one of the current trendy spots for night life in Bangkok, with some excellent restaurants, pleasant pubs and energetic bars. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the atmosphere on Phra Athit Road has gotten a bit too rauchous, with excessively loud music most nights. The nature of the street has changed dramatically (not necessarily for the better) in... More
Very interesting to walk around at this street. Not like Sukhumvit where we were stayed. You can at least get to see some of the originals here like the Thai cafe and music joins. This street is also popular among the backpackers. In the evening you start seeing all the actions here.
I stay in this area quite often and love this road, the old shop houses, mostly turned into coffee shops, restaurants,a great 'roti' shop, the old fort, and of coarse the river. At this point you can walk along the side of the river for a short distance and watch the river traffic ,all in all a great area to... More
So it is political..yet it is Thai way of live. i like this road because of the old buildings the trees and the preserved forts and minigarden on the riverside. the traffic usually very bad around there, but it just a short walk from Khao San Road, and I rather take a Chao Praya Speed Boat.
Adjacent to the Khao San Road, however, this little street cannot be dismissed as a tourist hub. There are quite a number of local bars devoid of tourists here. Mostly a younger crowd due to the close proximity to local Universities. Very sociable, friendly, and pleasant vibe from our experience. The live thai bands that plays most nights, were fantastic.... It's a lovely, classy, short road full of great places to eat. You can enjoy a stroll in the park by the Chaophraya River afterwards, and it's also very easy to reach Khaosan Rd if that's where you want to go.
I often spent dinner time chilling out on the road. Awesome and cheap street food washed down with a Chang or 5. Highly recommended experience. Met some great characters this way.
I agree with the previous reviewer, but consider the area to be average. Not bad, but there are lots of other neighbourhoods with similar or better characteristics. Then again, perhaps when compared with neighbouring Khao San Road (which I rate as 1-star to 2-stars in TA's rating scale), Phra Athit Road looks much better. Especially if you're staying in the...
