The Genocide Memorial Centre is obviously very harrowing and is likely to bring tears to your eyes. At the same time, it is very interesting and informative and is a wonderful tribute to those who died in the Rwandan genocide. I highly recommend getting the audio guide as it is very good and helped me to learn more about the... More

There are over 200 genocide memorials in Rwanda to commemorate the genocide that ended in 1994. This is the most comprehensive one of them, with some 250,000 people buried on the grounds. There are several rooms, but the saddest one shows the very small children that were killed in this horrific time in Rwandan history.

While visiting a missionary in Rwanda, we spent some time here to honor those who died in the genocide. I read a few books about it prior to coming, but nothing prepares you for the fact that 259,000 people are buried here at the memorial center. The pictures and videos are well done, although I have been told there is... More

I am not sure how to rate this other than to say it is verh sobering. You'll likely see many of these memorials in Rwanda but they are a part of the culture and an experience that is Rwanda.

This a clear portrayal of the horrendous events that changed the history of this splendid country and its people. The simplicity of some of the exhibits is very effective along with the pictures. The garden area with the wall of names will be very poignant when it is finished. Well worth a visit in order to better understand the true... More

Moving, shocking and inspiring in near equal measure. This memorial gives a real context to Rwanda post Genocide. It is not for the faint hearted......but it's simplicity is moving and conveys what is is to be human - both positive and negative !

There is a great deal of care and thought that has gone into this museum. The museum grounds are set high on a hill top and provide the comfort of peace and tranquility. The exhibits were laid out in a clear, chronological timeline. Everything was also translated into English and I was able to learn so much about the genocide... More

I liked that you can get the full history of the genocide in one visit together with pictures! I also liked that the story is in English as well!!! Sometimes speaking English in Rwanda seems like a sin :-)! What I didn't like is that I left feeling so drained emotionally. I couldn't do anything else that afternoon. It took... More

This well-designed memorial tells the history leading up to and covering the 1994 genocide. Outside on the beautifully kept grounds are the mass graves of approximately 250,000 men, women and children who died in Kigali during the 100 days of bloodshed in 1994, as well as several gardens designed for reflection. Many of the staff lost loved ones in the... More

If you can only do one thing and one thing only, then it would be to visit this memorial. Having gone there after experiencing the post election violence of 2007/2008 (in Kenya), it was a stark reminder of how easily we could have gone this way and for much less. It is a grim reminder of what human beings are... More
