Driving this road is not for the timid driver; there are many blind corners and 1 lane sections on this road. That being said, it is a very beautiful drive through a less "touristy" area of West Maui. Driving along the coast takes you through many small town and provides countless views of the coastline and ocean. Give yourself a... More

Driving this road is not for the faint of heart. If you like single lane cliff side roads with spectacular views of the ocean and small fishing villages then this is the trip for you! Take your time and be careful to oncoming traffic. You need to be a bit aggressive and take a bit of charge on who is... More

This is a drive to start early in the day and start from west Maui. The road is not all that great and it is 1 lane with pull outs for passing oncoming cars. Remember. The car on the mountain side of the road pulls over !! Courtesy is the name of the game here. And it's about the scenery... More

We had our trip a mapped out from the cruise port to the blowhole and then on to Lahaina. We had out Jeep Wrangler with the top down, beautiful weather, what could go wrong? What went wrong is continuing on this road from Nakalele. It was beautiful at first. Actually it was reminiscent of driving the Amalfi Coast in Italy.... More

This Hwy 30/340 is no problem driving east to the Nakele Blowhole. BYW, the blowhole is a great destination . . . for those who don't get too close and are sucked in! After the blowhole the road is a BIG problem! This portion is also called the Kahekili Hwy. These 15 miles are extremely treacherous. You would need about... More

Real simple, only for the risk taker. Very scary. At points, the outside tires are literally on the cliff edge and you are praying that the founding earth will hold up. There is No way to turn around. Once you commit , you must go all the way. Do not do it with your family. If you are feeling gutsy... More

Just did it. All 59 miles of the loop. It's one of the rides on the bucket list. 2500 ft elevation gain. Some steep terain. Must be careful. Would not miss it. Should be somewhat experienced rider. Will take my 14 year old son tomorrow. Make sure your brakes work. Rent bikes from south maui bikes in Kihei. Took about... More

If you are driving up from the west side, everything is fine until shortly after you reach the Nakalele blowhole. The highway soon disappears, and is replaced by a one lane "road," much of which is little more than a narrow, roughly paved path, flanked on one side by a steep hillside, and on the other by a sheer (and... Not for the faint of heart or those who have vertigo or get carsick. But if you want a beautiful ride with a little bit of risk, do it. Just drive slowly and pay attention and be patient. It is so beautiful. And stop for some of Julies banana bread.

Not as twisty and windy as the highway to Hana but just as enjoyable. The south end is very interesting- one side: desolate red dirt, the other side: wonderful beaches - do people just pull off the road and camp for the weekend? Nice freeway moves the traffic past the heavily populated areas. Particularly after Napili, the road is interesting... More
