I would easily recommend this bike ride to anyone who can pedal for 4 hrs (less if you're a competitive cyclist). This is the best ride I've ever done and a way better way to spend your time than riding Haleakala. But I don't think it's a great idea by car. Long, exposed stretches that aren't much wider than a... More

Me and my wife stumbled upon this road while cruising our first day in Maui. What a magnificent drive with beautiful views and exhilarating cliffs. We drove our mustang convertible top down the entire way. It was just fun fun fun. We did the entire drive in less than 2 hours. Driving from airport side to Kaanapali. There are several... More

We flew into Kahului and our resort was in Lahaina, so I thought it would be fun to drive Highway 30 around the northern side of Halemahina. On the map, the road was curvy and right on the coast, so I thought it might be like driving the Big Sur. Well, it was pretty intense. I'm very glad we did... More

Unless you are on a motorcycle, Do Not Attempt this road north of Honolua ( It's a small one car wide in several places with sheer drops and no guardrail. If you meet a car there's no place to backup and if cars are behind you you're all screwed. When you see the cars parked along the road at Honolua... More

Being the driver is a lot less scarry then being the pasenger. But you can't see as much as the passenger. And don't take your hand off the wheel to point anything out. My wife's whimpering just got louder. The best part of the trip is when it was over. Although the drive past Hana was definately more challenging. More

My husband and I did the road to Hana and then he decided we needed to travel this road too. It is ssooooooo much more intense (narrow, sharp turns, sheer cliffs) than the road to Hana. I think I had my fingers gripped on the seat the entire trip. (I am a somewhat adventurous person). At one point in the... More

I've done the RTH twice before and only found portions of the road past Hana a bit hairy but the drive down to Kahakuloa really freaked me out. The turns were harder, many many more blind turns and very narrow. It is well paved, though, no bumps that I recall. No guard rail, and straigt down sheer cliffs to the... More
