While Maalaea doesn't have the big, fancy resorts like West maui, or Kihei, it is centrally located.... It's 15 minutes to the airport, less than a half hour from Lahaina or Makena... Also, it makes the drives to Hana and the volcano summit more reasonable..... If you prefer to avoid the resorty and timeshare crowds, this area is worth considering.......

The boat trip on the Four Winds II was so well done. We had a great captain and crew and great food. Molokini is an essential Maui excursion. I highly recommend the Four Winds II.

We like to stay in a condo in Maalaea because of the quiet and peaceful surroundings. It is convenient to all places on the island with very little traffic. We watch humpback whales all day long from the lanai during the season,

Quiet, away from the busy tourist hubs. Beautiful bay with great whale watching from the lanai of most rentals.

Most of the shops were overpriced tourists shops, but the arts and crafts and farmers market was very nice with some interesting merchandise.

A lovely place to stay. Quiet, good value for condos. Most condos are ocean front. Saw LOTS of whales from our lanai!!!We stayed at the Maalaea Kai and were more than pleased with everything about the unit we were in.

Most Maui visitors go to Ma'alaea just to catch a dive boat to Molokini or to go the aquarium but we love to stay there. It's quiet, the beaches are nearly empty, it's paradise.
