The good wife and I went to Tikal, (Our 1st trip there) in 1990--we had seen the archaeological sites in Belize before flying to Flores, Guatemala. We thought that we had seen the best of the Mayans. (Wrong) Please don't die before you see Tikal. We had the best guide that ever worked at the site, Louis Sanderval. After seeing... More

I only wish I wasn't paralyzed and glued to the one step on the top of the temple I was sitting on. The view, being above the tree canopy, it was all soooooo amazing. Watching people schlep around in flip flops and trip - I couldn't watch them anymore. That place is very high up. More

We've traveled to Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, but Tikal has its magical allure. Though the ruins itself may not be in tip top condition, it is one of the largest Mayan ruin area a tourist is allowed to visit. Climbing Temple IV shouldn't be that tough, because the stairs are in great condition, but it was... More

The highest temple in Tikal. Absolutely amazing. Sunrise tour is wonderful here and you can look out over the canopy of the jungle. More

This was our first trip to a Mayan site and we were amazed by the scale of the place. The entire complex is huge, and this Temple is definitely one of the highlights. Climbing to the top was easier than expected, and the view from the top was breathtaking. More

It's a bit of a walk from the main temple complex to Temple iV but if you are up to it you must go and climb those stairs to the top-the wooden stairs make it not too challenging. The view is magnificent and makes you realise how huge the site is. You might also see parrots amongst the trees and,... More

Just the impresion that this was once a great city teeming with people and now it is tourists that come and stand in awe a what the Maya built so long ago. Every time I visit something new has been revealed, now they are restoring temple IV, last they had just restored Temple V. IT always leaves me wondering what... More
