Stopped by this ghost town while on our way down from a fall colors drive over Independence Pass. After that, almost nothing could impress! Access was easy, in spite of a recent snowfall.

Driving over Independence pass is truly one of the great Aspen experiences. Highly recommended. If you come into town from down valley, however, I wouldn't highly recommend making the drive up to the ghost town on the pass. It's kinda cool but not worth the time...
I'm not so sure about the destination, but the journey is incredible from either direction.... I make the trip several times a year and I am always amazed!
You can walk around for a small donation, it is just a cool place. Every once in a while, they have the general store open and someone is there to answer questions.
fun and remote place to visit, it really shows the hard conditions that people had to go thru when the gold boom was in this area. A nice place to visit during summer it is always cool and you will see wonderful views.
We visited the Ghost town after driving over the Pass from the east. Friendly guide at the entrance, and a small fee, to view the town. Very interesting to see how the Miners lived years ago, check out the general store, lots of history. Good job is done to try to restore the houses and the walk trails between them....

I'm a history junkie, so we stopped at this little attraction just west of Independence Pass. The history of the town of Independence is well-documented, which gives the visit a good sense of history. A visit to the website after your visit to the town is a cool way to bring it all full-circle; take time to read the letter...
