What an awesome example of architecture. You cannot visit DC without seeing the Cathedral. Although it is not near the Mall, it can be accessed via the Metro and a short walk through some amazing neighborhoods (Cleveland Park is my favorite).

Although I made it through the doors a bit late for tours, I was able to wander around and enjoy the beautiful stained glass and prayer chapels. A choir was practicing for the Thursday evening service and the acoustics were fabulous. Staying for the service was a real treat. The choir was a wonderful mix of teens and adults. Very... More

Our visit to the cathedral was on a sunny afternoon making the stained glass windows shine. We were a bit late so we did not get to see everything. There is a wonderful brochure with a guide to the highlights. The surrounding houses are great to look at as well.

I have been to DC at least six times and never made it out to the Cathedral -mostly because you can't get there by Metro. This time I got off at Dupont Circle and not fifty feet to bus stop on Mass. Ave and caught the N2 bus (N3, N4 and N6 also go straight by). It wasn't a ten... More

I lived across the street for months and had the opportunity to observe this amazing and huge building at sunrise, at night, in fog under snow etc. It is spectacular and majestic and different every time. From the inside it feels even bigger, with beautifully designed and detailed ornaments. The earthquake caused some damage, a huge part that came down... More

Off the "beaten path" but worth the effort! Beautiful church in a beautiful neighborhood. Gorgeous stained glass windows, view from the observation platform was good and a display about the effects of the 2011 earthquake was interesting. Reminiscent of a European cathedral.

The National Cathedral is spectacular in its architectural beauty and wandering its ground was enjoyable, but one thing dampened my enthusiasm. The tour guides and directors, to a person, seemed like they were bothered by our presence, as if we were a hindrance. They were not personable or friendly. With such a magnificent edifice, it would be nice to meet... More

This is a beautiful gothic cathedral that reminded me of St. Paul's in London. There is so much detail to see. The docent was quite good and we had tea which was also very good. A moving experience to see such a grand place to worship. This one should not miss.

Attended a holy eucharist there and it was a nice experience. The pipe organ was impressive and of course the tourist attraction was the space window. All in all very interesting and worth a visit. I followed the visit with a trip to friendship heights further up north, which I recommend for shopping.

We were only able to tour the outside of the cathedral, but it was time well spent. Ignore the scaffolding in place for earthquake retro-fitting. The flying buttresses, cathedral windows, and incidental carvings were a real visual treat, especially during the sunset hour. Watch for the carving of a cat being tormented by a bird up on a capitol near... More
