Fabulous views and abundant hiking options but in mid May the trail head bathrooms were all closed and many of the high hikes were still pretty snowy, so you will need gaiters or plan on wet feet like we had. Worth it though! Andrews lake was beautiful as was the gorgeous scenery around Delores Valley.

I love this drive and have made it several times. It is more enjoyable if you stop and explore along the way. The picture was taken on our stop at Molas Pass on between Durango and Silverton. We also like to stop at Andrews lake.

US Route 550 from Silverton Colorado to Ouray Colorado. An excellent road with breathtaking views but not for the faint of heart. There are several hair pin turn, no guard rail cliff edges, and mountain passes. Check road conditions before heading out. It was 60 degrees down below and 27 degrees and snowing at the top. Even on a sunny... More

Really, everyone should make this trip at least once in their life. We enjoyed this and every bit of the San Juan Skyway. Be careful as there are no guard rails for most of this journey but the sights are breath taking and worth it.

This is a stunningly beautiful drive. We started it one day and it started snowing and was very foggy, so we returned to Pagosa Springs. Several days later we tried again, and were so glad we did! The recent snow was so beautiful and the road was cleared and passable. A clear day is a must to see the beauitful... More

The Million Dollar Highway (US550) is a 70 mile drive across the top of the world from Durango to Ouray. It's best to have your wits about you when you take this drive and be prepared for a white knuckle 2-3 hours! There's no guard rails in CO or trees to break your fall on this stretch and it's a... Don't be discouraged or intimidated by other reviews. It is an awesome drive, albeit a little exciting. I was the driver...in a rental I had been driving for an hour...piece of cake! Slow your roll..stop for photo ops..enjoy. One more thing, off my bucket list!

I wasn't driving (might have a different review if I were the driver), but some of the views are spectacular. Yes, the road goes along some cliffs, but the road is in great shape, and it's not like you're going 90 mph around a curve. If you're with a safe driver, you're fine. If you've ever driven up switchbacks on... More

Drive from Durango to Silverton and beyond for a delightful road trip. The mountain scenery is incredible and several of the towns along the way provide an interesting diversion. The overlooks along the highway are fantastic. The towns of Silverton and Ouray are worth an hours' stroll.

Take this bad boy during wildflowers in May or leaves changing colors around 2nd week in October. ( From Durango to Silverton to Ouray ). Great views of mines, mountain lakes, streams, trees changing color in Fall. Silverton is Ok, nothiing special. Get out at Molas Pass Overlook ( 11,000 ft I think ). Saw Mountain Goats headed down to... More
