I had an amazing trip between Los Angeles and Seattle on a solo trip. I loved the scenery so much I didn't read my book at all! From the beautiful Pacific ocean (the train is practically in the sand), through farm land and vineyards, snowy forests, woodlands, and the waterfronts. I had a sleeper on the Pacific side (just by... More

We took the Coast Starlight from Emeryville to LA then continued south to Oceanside. Great attendant service for our roomette - Linda did an outstanding job and made us so comfortable on a relatively long journey - very scenic for most of the way. The food in the dining car was very good, fresh and served at the right temperature.... More

Promised our kids an overnight train ride and so took the Coast Starlight from San Francisco (actually Emeryville) to Seattle. The good news is you pass through the worst of the trip (Oakland to the border) while sleeping as the train leaves around 10 pm and is at the Oregon border by around 6 am. We had the bedroom suites... More

My travel companion and I took the Amtrak bus from downtown San Francisco to Emeryville where we boarded the train just a few minutes late. We were shown to our roomette by our car's attendant Cruz, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Our seats had already been folded down into beds for the evening, so we stowed our belongings and... Fortunately I did not read the reviews of Coast Starlight before booking the ticket otherwise I may not have gone on this wonderful train. My wife and kids had th Family Bedroom and it was lovely. Not too noisy at all. We slept fine. The day were spent lounging comfortably in the Parlour Car and the Lounge Car. I can't... More

We rode from Oakland to Portland with a sleeper car. The train was on time. The staff were helpful and courteous. The train itself was old and in need of love. I actually think they should either buy new cars or update the ones they have. But the seating, food, views and ambiance made this a very enjoyable trip. EXCEPT... More

This is the second time I've taken the Coast Starlight from Sacramento, CA to Seattle, WA on a roundtrip. It's a long trip, and if you have the time it's a wonderful adventure. Your local train station might be much closer to home than any airport. There are no tedious baggage searches, and nobody is patting you down. Unless you... More

The northbound trip between Klamath Falls, Oregon and Eugene, Oregon is a fantastic winter wonderland. There were Klamath County Museum volunteers in the Lounge Car providing some geologic, biologic, and historical information about the sites we were observing along the route which travels through tunnels, switchbacks, and snowsheds. Train was on time into all the stations from Klamath Falls, OR... More

We enjoyed our journey from Seattle to Santa Barbara, California last year so much that we decided to do it again this year. You often wonder if the second experience will live up to the first or are you in for a bit let down? We weren't let down in the slightest and frankly if anything, overall service, particularly the... More

Took friend, a first time Amtrak'er, from LA to Seattle and then I doubled back to Berkeley (the Emeryville stop by San Francisco). I'm not a wine drinker but my friend was and the daily wine and cheese tasting was a big hit as was the champagne waiting in our rooms. We each had a roomette rather than squeeze into... More
