It isn't difficult to travel to Konopiste Castle from Prague; we took the train and got a taxi from the station to the castle car park. Neither are expensive and train travel is good in and out of Prague. The journey offers the chance to see some of the Czech countryside, especially if you sit on the upper level of... More

I enjoyed this tour at the konopiste castle than the karlstejn castle tour. Here, I would recommend you choose the tour where you'll be narrated about franz Ferdinand's hunting equipments and his lifestyle. Very interesting! Worth the day trip from Prague :)

The Konopiste Castle is a 40 minute car ride from downtown Prague, but the trip was well worth it. The castle and grounds are well-maintained. There are guided tours every 15 minutes in a variety of languages. The English tour was a 2 hour wait, so we got the headset guided tour and went with the Czech language tour. We... More

This castle near to the town of Benešov - 40 minutes car drive from the centre of Prague - is amazing primarily for the extent and preservation of the historical subjects. The surroundings are beautifully kept and the castle itself is clean and group instructions well organized. You see all kinds of armor (also for horses!), weapons, history of all... More

Konopiste HISTORY, TRAGEDY, MELODRAMA By Zoran Slavic The day I came out of a nearby Benesova in Konopiste, to see the place where it all started as described above, it was rainy. As befits confrontations with history. Previous night was a blast. Full of thunder. Anyway, as I look around very neatly manicured gardens around the castle, and its lavish... More

Although many people visit Prague, not many adventure outside the city-limits to experience the incredible history that seems to be everywhere. My wife and I have visited Prague two separate times now and this year (2012) was the first we ventured into the surrounding area. At times, self-directed touring in Czech Republic can be a daunting task: especially if you're... More

Everyone goes to Prague and hardly anyone knows about anywhere else in the Czech Republic. Well, this is one of those gems that you should not miss! About 50 km (30 mi) southeast of Prague, outside the city of Benešov, it deserves to be much better known. You really need a car to get there, but it is well worth... More

Marvelous place to visit when you have a half day in Prague. Great castle overseeing the lake around which you can walk or jog. It is surrounded by forests where you can see the deers coming to the fence very closely. Bear is living in the special area in front of the entrance. We were not very lucky to come... More

It has become famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir of the Austro-Hungarian throne, whose assassination in Sarajevo triggered World War I. The bullet that killed him, fired by Gavrilo Princip, is now an exhibit at the castle's museum.Part of the film The Illusionist was filmed in Konopiste.Great place (castle, gardens, lake and forest). Now i know why... Not far from Prague by car (direction Brno). A well set castle on a small hill not far from the parking lot, BTW a paradise for souvenirs hunters, suitable also for older people, accessible easily for disabled as well (you can take a short-cut up the hill, short but steep, or the road around, pleasant for walking). Oh, I could... More
