The falls are a little way out of Paihai and can be approached by a circular road that runs out to the falls and then curves back to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds via the local golf club. It is a reasonable fill-in, but not worth a separate visit unless you want to just fill in time (like we did while... More

The falls are quite pretty but there's a really ugly building behind them which it's hard to keep out of photos. Also the walk to Waitangi is long and boring (and then you have to walk back!)

If you are in Paihia, you simply must visit the falls, they look even better from a Kayak at high tide.

Not a lot of water flowing when we visited. We had a car & drove the loop (Pahia, Haruru Falls, Waitangi, Paihia) - it was about ten minutes between Haruru Falls & Waitangi (great views). Haruru Falls isn't a waterfall I'd rave about ..... it's more along the lines of 'just another waterfall' - nice to see & worth taking... More

Scenic falls conveniently located not far from Paihia. Excellent walk from Waitangi through mangroves and native bush (takes up to 2 hours). Note that diving in and swimming here are not advised owing to the rapid flow of water. I believe kayaks can be rented though.

In low water times this is a non event, worth a few minutes walk when there is plenty of water flow. If the rivers are low give it a miss!

The Haruru Falls are unspectacular but pleasant, being close to a town, fairly low and wide. A very interesting path of about 5km leads from there along the banks of the Waitangi River to the Bay of Islands, generally lightly undulating through some dense bush. The other end emerges near the Treaty Grounds, next to a golf course.

We met another person who also wanted to do the walk from Waitangi Golf Course to Haruru Falls, which is about 1.5 hours one way - due to time constraint we did a car shuttle and only walked one way. The walk takes you through native bush alongside the river and on boardwalk through the mangrove swamp, with lots of... More
