It's a pretty awful 1960's style concrete building. It's really nothing special at all. Save yourself the effort and view it from the bridge or harbour - the further away you are the less awful it looks.

The inside - whether you go to an opera or not - is worth coming to.
Enjoying a glass of chilled Australian wine with the Harbour bridge in the background at sunset is something else! ..but if you do ..be prepared to pay a 2nd mortgage for the privelidge! (A soda water to accompany the wine, was - I kid...

Saw 2 shows at the opera house during the vivid festival in May, a fresh walk from our hotel across the harbour at the rocks and the breeze was up off the water, so flat shoes and good jacket recommended, great views, wonderful light show on the opera building, signage not good though.
During our visit to Sydney we spent all day at the opera house as it was very beautiful and carries such great story behind it. A must see in person, better in real life. Too bad we never went inside. Next Time!
Saw 2 shows in the Opera House, amazing interior and sound. Saw the Australian ballet and The Sydney orchestra. Amazing spot right by the Sydney Harbour bridge.
Just love it. From performances for audiences of 9 months to 99 years. Great location, and great entertainment, or just soak up the atmosphere. It's well worth a visit, and the surrounding walks to gardens and art galleries makes you realise what a good start or end point it is.
It's an amazing architectural structure and great for picture-taking. It's just a short walk from Circular Quay - nice and breezy with lots of restaurants and shops around. Great place to sit and admire the scenery.
I took a tour of the Opera house but was very disappointed very much concrete jungle with large area of concrete steps. Plus the acoustic in the theater was very poor could not hear the players in Yes Prime Minister so miss many of the funny lines With such a wonderful sight from the outside it was very disappointing
Could not stop photographing this unbelievable structure. Since it is on a point overlooking circular quay, all sides show...and show beautifully. The story behind the building is amazing
Fabulous tour. Very informative and amazed at the history and interior of the building as well as the exterior. It's a must on your list.
