We had a four day trip (Friday - monday). 6 pax, 3 nights booked at Samosir Villa Resorts. It takes 1 hour flight (from Singapore) + 5 hours drive + 1 hour ferry to get to lake toba. The view is gorgeous but due to the recent haze problem in Indonesia in general, it's a little disappointing if you've gone... More

If you want a place to get away from it all, Lake Toba is one of the best place to just sit back, relax and do absolutely nothing! Of course, you could go for a swim in the very clear waters or just dip in the water. The lake is teeming with wild life and you could see many birds... More

Staying on Samosir island was something i will never forget. Surrounded by a fresh water lake the size of belgium, which in the morning doubled as a clean place to take a swim. This island has panoramic views of the mainland from almost everywhere and the higher you go the more you will find. Home to wild horses, monkeys and... More

Once the scene of a super eruption 75,000 years ago, filled the Earth’s atmosphere with so much dirt, smoke & gas that it blocked out the sunlight for years causing a mini Ice Age. The volcano mouth is over 100kms in circumference giving you an impression of the size of this monster volcano. Toba dirt has been discovered in core... More

4-5 hours drive from Medan and it was actually a tiring journey...you may sleep all the way to lake toba. But once you reach Parapat....your tired disappeared as you see the huge amazing beautiful lake. Board an hour boat to Samosir Island and i stayed one night at Toledo Inn Hotel Samosir (my 2nd stay). Old hotel but all the... More

It took about 5 hours driving from Medan Polonia Airport to Lake Toba. The journey was long and boring but when i saw the lake, i immediately forgot about the tiredness. The lake is extremely huge with greenish blue lake water. We really enjoyed the ferry trip from Parapat to Samosir Island. It is a good way to see the... More

This lake so naturally and so large with surrounded by mountain line. It was too bad that transportation to get here just use land with 5 hours driving from Medan. The hotel at city Parapet not many and look like old.

When I was a kid, I always find Lake Toba beautiful, surreal, and magical. It's a humongous volcanic lake. I always know that the lake is a remains of a volcano. But I only learned few years ago that the lake is a remains of a super-volcano that was erupted about 75,000 years ago, which affected the earth's climate at... More
