Not just the Ampitheatre but all of Merida is well worth the visit. The Ampitheatre, the Aquaducts,Snow wells, churches with underground crypts, all free of charge if you don't mind walking. We stayed three days which was plenty, but it's a shame Merida isn't mentioned very much in the tourist guides, it's a main attraction in Spain as far as we were concerned. As good... More

I was so impressed with these Roman ruins. Buy the full ticket for 12€. You get the Roman Theatre, the Ampiteatre, the Circus Max, the Roman house and the Columbariums. I was so impressed with Merida's attractions. It is too bad the town is struggling to welcome visitors.

If you only visit one place in Merida, go here. We decided to get to the location early to take some decent photos and to catch the morning light. The crowds start arriving around 1000hrs with the tour buses. These ancient monuments that have been witness to the decline of the Roman empire, and several invasions of marauding hoards are... More

This is hands down the best Roman Ruins we have seen in Spain, thus far. Very well maintained and the theater is incredible. The amphitheater is also very well kept. It was a bit pricey to enter for the adults about 10.50 Euro, but the kids were free. Well worth the visit. Stand up on the stage and put yourself... More

We were told about Merida so we called in on our way North. These must be the best Roman remains outside Italy. The Arena and Amphitheatre next to each other are a must if you are in the area. We were there in March and it was quite warm enough but the attraction closed for lunch. There are plenty of... More

The ruins were so awesome, it was like being in Rome (well, little Rome) It was helpful that there were signs giving us some history on the amphitheater.

beutifully kept theatre. it is hard to belive they actually looked like this, with all the attaintion paid to tiny details (see the marble lace and you instanly understand the strong feelings it offers) most roman theatres only keep the hairs, not the stage wall. this and the thatre in orange, provence, france offer a complete image of how a... Merida must be one of the best historical cities to visit in Spain, the number of splendid Roman ruins dotted around the city, all within a reasonable walk is remarkable. They are all very well kept and in many cases restoration works are still being carried out. One ticket covers the entrance to several attractions and there is also a... More

As spectacular as any Roman ruin you'll see - right up there with the likes of Ephesus. The entrance ticket gains you access to all the other imprtant monuments, too.
