All covered in snow so you can't see them in the winter. This was the reason for our stop there. So, museum at that point was just average.

We arrived some 30 minutes before opening time but were let in out of the cold and made to feel very welcome until the museum officially opened. Some great exhibits well displayed. The museum is a good distance out of town but is served by a frequent bus service during the week - at the weekend get a taxi but... More

Good location with nice view of Alta River and the entry was free in low season. Staff is very welcoming and cooperative

The Alta Museum is a fantastic attraction if you are interested in anciet rock drawings along with a beautiful walk along a boardwalk overlooking the Alta Fjord. The museum is less than 3 miles from the city center. We caught the local bus which runs every half hour and took 10 minutes to get there. The bus cost 35NK (about... More

I visited the Alta Museum in the winter time as I went to Alta to see the Northern Lights. Since all of the rock carvings at Hjemmeluft/Jielpmaluokta (Seal Bay) was under snow, I only had the opportunity to see the museum and the rock art that they have inside. The museum does a good job explaining the history of the... More

Tells you everything you need to know about the people who created the rock art - and all the different generations who've lived here. Good on the Northern Light too.

Well worth the visit & see the history. Could be a bit cleaner but the walk outside and around the site is very good

This is a superb small exhibit highlighting some fascinating "preistoric" rock art along the fjord side south of Alta. Definitely worth a few hours. Excellent shop. Noticed the Museum has closed for rennovation recently. Not sure why, seemed fine to me.
