We have done this trip a few times and it's just great. You really get insight into the island life and how hard it must have been. It is a beautiful island and you can go to the beach and walk around the remaining ruins, you can walk all around hte island aswell. I would recommend getting an early ferry... More

One of the most beautiful places I have visited, we arrived on may 2nd in blistering sunshine, the first view of the island from the boat is quite sad to see the ruined houses, but when you get off the boat and start walking the island you get a sense of how the people may have lived, the harshness of... The Great Blasket Island was absolutely breathtaking!! Truly awe inspiring!! The surrounding waters were turquiose. What an amazing view as you're hugging the cliffs on the twisting curving, narrow roads!!--only to see them shooting out of azure blue water in all of their stunning splendor. Possibly the most spectacular place in all of Ireland !! More

The history of this place, occupied for centuries until 1950s , is great. Irish writers in Gaelic abounded here with simple tales of their very simple lives. Well worth reading. From time to time people still occupy it. The scenery is great and there is interesting wild life in the form of seals etc.and every kind of sea bird. You... More

Interesting spot to visit to reflect on Ireland's past. Great views of the other Blasket Islands, plus views of seals and basking sharks along the shore when we visited. More

I was nervous about GETTING to the Great Blasket island! The boat that takes you can't land as it's too rocky so a little way you have to get down into a rubber dinghy- scary but very well managed by a team used to doing this often daily. Well worth it but I wouldn't recommend you take your elderly relatives... More

If the weather is good and you like a little adventure this is for you. It is so beautiful to stand on the Great Island and know that it was occupied until the middle of the 20th Century. Take a bottle of wind , a loaf of French bread and a big hunk of cheese and enjoy this magnificent place!!!!! More

The photos really don't do this place any justice at all. In person, the colors of the grass and ocean are incredibly vivid. In September the sun was out and it was warm enough to sit out all day. This is a must-see when in Ireland. More
